Los Santos city from GTA V features many famous locations in Los Angeles including Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, L.A.’s Koreatown, South Central and Downtown L.A. These are all badly disguised with slightly different names so it’s not hard to work out what they are based on, but we thought we would show you some of the real life locations anyway…
Santa Monica Pier is the real life name for Del Perro Pier in GTA V. In reality it’s a large double-jointed pier located at the foot of Colorado Avenue in Santa Monica, California. According to GTA Wiki, the name “Del Perro” translates to “of the dog” in Spanish, is likely a reference to Santa Monica’s nickname of “Dogtown.”
The Vinewood Bowl (Hollywood Bowl in real life) is an outdoor entertainment venue located beneath the Vinewood Sign. The reality talent show Fame or Shame is filmed at Vinewood Bowl. In reality The Hollywood Bowl is an iconic 1920’s amphitheater in the Hollywood area of Los Angeles that is used primarily for music performances.
The Los Santos Observatory is a landmark overlooking the city in GTA V. In reality, Griffith Observatory is a facility in Los Angeles, California sitting on the south-facing slope of Mount Hollywood in Los Angeles’ Griffith Park.
GTA’s Tequil La-La is based on the famous rock n’ roll nightclub ‘Whisky a Go Go’, located on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood. It is featured in the Stranger side mission Vinewood Souvenirs – Willy, where Trevor Philips must collect a gold tooth from Willy.
It really doesn’t take a genius to work out that the Vinewood sign is based on the Hollywood sign!
