Reasons the McLaren P1 is awesome number 1: it has a centrally mounted exhaust which is spitting flames more often than not. That’s pretty cool!
The P1’s so-called IPAS hybrid powertrain (i.e. Instant Power Assist System which is McLaren-talk for the hybrid setup used on Formula One cars), can boom out 903 hp and slings you from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 2.6 seconds.
On the track, the P1 is astonishing. The specially formulated Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires — 19 inches in front and 20 inches in back — work overtime with the P1’s intricate adaptive suspension to keep the action grippy and comfy at all times.
It’s so brilliant, in fact, that the whole limited run of 375 McLaren P1 hypercars has already been sold with last deliveries due by July 2015.
According to Gavin Green from Car Magazine, “There’s never been a car so fast, so thrilling, so deliciously rewarding to power and manipulate around a track. There’s never been a car that offers such an astonishing breadth of capabilities.
“Just as they did with the wonderful F1 road car, the men from McLaren have once again redefined the supercar.”
