Pictures have been released that show the dramatic aftermath when a £100,000 sports car lost control and smashed into a house in Sutton Coldfield.
The occupants of the detached house in Hill Hook Road, Four Oaks, took these pictures, minutes after being awoken by an Audi R8 ploughing just feet away from where they were sleeping.
A 19-year-old local man has been charged with drink driving over the crash which happened at 5am on Saturday.
The occupants, Harold and Janet Perry, told how the white sports car destroyed the front fence and wall and smashed down their front door and part of the porch.
Harold, aged 72, and Janet, 71, were asleep in their bedroom at the front of the house – less than 2ft from where the car landed.
Mr Perry, a retired electrical contractor, said: “We were asleep when all of a sudden ‘boom!’ there was a massive bang and I thought a bomb had gone off.
“We looked out the window and saw this white car was next to the house sideways onto the pavement.
“We could see a man and a woman inside and my wife called out ‘are you alright?’ and they didn’t answer so we rang the police and went downstairs.”
Mrs Perry, a retired book-keeper, said by the time they got downstairs the couple had got themselves out of the car and were walking down the road.
“We were told by the police that the man who was driving the car only lived around the corner and went home but then came back,” she said.
“This is a busy road with a 30mph limit. They were coming up the road and must have lost control, spun round and ended up sideways in our house.”
He is charged with driving a vehicle with an alcohol level above the limit, using a vehicle on the road without insurance and aggravated vehicle taking.
He has been bailed to appear at Birmingham magistrates court on May 14.
