"Excuse me, your Lamborghini is on fire!"

A Lamborghini driver had stopped at traffic lights and was posing for photos with the motorist in front when the flames started shooting out near his rear bumper.

In the video below, he puts on his hazard lights and blue flashes can be seen from under the vehicle and the blaze takes hold.

Watch as a £250,000 Lamborghini supercar is reduced to ashes by engine fire in Dubai

Watch as a £250,000 Lamborghini supercar is reduced to ashes by engine fire in Dubai

For some drivers even a small dent in the door of their car would be the end of the world. So imagine how this unnamed man felt when his £250,000 Lamborghini Aventador went up in flames in Dubai.

Footage shows the yellow supercar surrounded by smoke as its parked on a road near the luxury Al Qasr Hotel. A man wearing just a black T-shirt, jeans and trainers can be seen desperately using a fire extinguisher to try and put it out.

Firefighters also douse the car in water as smoke continues to pour out from underneath. Unfortunately despite their best efforts the car is reduced to a mere smouldering carcass.

A wealthy Russian tourist filmed the moment on his mobile phone and posted it to his Instagram page. A second video showed the car’s wreckage, with its doors and back windscreen completely destroyed.

It is not clear what started the fire although some reports suggest it was due to a suspected engine fault. The Aventador can go from a standstill to 60mph in just under three seconds and has a top speed of 217mph.

Dubai Police supercar tops list of fastest law-enforcement vehicles

Dubai Police supercar tops list of fastest law-enforcement vehicles

Police in Dubai have no excuse to not catch a speeding motorist as they have the world’s fastest street-legal car in their arsenal, the Bugatti Veyron, which has topped a list of fastest law-enforcement vehicles in emerging countries.

Capable of hitting a top speed of 407kph, the 16-cylinder Bugatti Veyron churns out 1,200 horsepower, allowing it to reach 100kph in just 2.5 seconds, making it able to catch any speeding motorist. The vehicle is the jewel in the crown of Dubai Police’s fleet of luxury cars, which they use to promote their image and to encourage interaction with the public.

Dubai Police chief Maj Gen Khamis Al Muzeina said previously that the force uses the cars to enhance its presence at landmark sites, where a majority of tourists frequent, adding that the police stay up-to-date with the latest cars and technology to ensure the best safety and security services.

The force also has a Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 in its ranks, which is second on the list, a supercar that has recently been acquired by Vietnam as the Southeast Asian country looks to boost its ability to serve and protect. The Aventador, a feature in several police fleets around the world, tops out at 349kph, making other high-speed sports cars drivers think twice before putting the pedal to the metal.

Exotic car maker Lamborghini finds itself again on the list at number three with the Gallardo LP560-4. Accelerating up to 100kph in 3.7 seconds, police in Indonesia are only showing off this beauty in a shopping mall at the moment. If it ever hits the streets, the Gallardo will be capable of maxing out at 330kph.

A Gulf police force crops up again on the list as Qatari cops have a Porsche Panamera, which comes fourth. The Panamera, the country’s fastest police cruiser, can climb to a speed of 318kph. And with the Qatari government holding a stake in the German high-end car maker, Porsches make up the bulk of the nation’s fleet of cruisers.

Coming in at number five is the Chevrolet Camaro, which Mexican police patrol their streets with at speeds of up to 249kph. Although the Camaro is well behind the blistering speeds of the Bugatti Veyron, those on the wrong side of the law should take note that it can accelerate from 0-100kph in only 4.9 seconds.

Dubai Police’s night-time supercar procession

Dubai Police’s night-time supercar procession

There’s no point in owning a Bugatti Veyron, Mercedes SLS and a Lamborghini Aventador if you can’t show them off, right?

This is exactly why Dubai Police has decided to showcase its fleet of luxury cars in action on the city’s key roads.

The 88-second night-time video, posted on the force’s YouTube channel, begins with a wide-angle shot of the brightly lit emirate and gradually homes in on the vehicles whizzing through the city.

Dubai Police said the fleet of luxury cars were to promote the image of the authorities and to encourage the public to interact with the police. A Lexus RCF, equipped with computers and cameras, is the latest vehicle to join the police fleet, which includes a McLaren MP4-12C, Aston Martin One-77, Audi R8, Bugatti Veyron, Mercedes SLS, BMW M6, Lamborghini Aventador, Ferrari FF, and Bentley Continental GT.

Dubai Police chief Maj Gen Khamis Al Muzeina said the fleet of cars was used to patrol heritage sites as well as other places frequented by tourists.

A fitting weekend curtain raiser to the festivities marking the 43rd National Day rolled through Dubai with dramatic flair last Friday.

Draped in a sea of UAE flags, the Meydan Motor Village reverberated with the powerful revs of 600 luxury cars as the Dubai Grand Parade was flagged off.

Earlier in the morning, the Dubai Motor Festival (DMF) is believed to have set a new Guinness World Record of the largest number of cars in a single motorcade with 58 automative marquees taking part in a mass convoy of supercars, classic automobiles and exotic cars.

The World’s Best Police Cars

The World's Best Police Cars

This is the new 2015 Dodge Charger police car. Not only does it look properly terrifying – monster front bull-bars, sinister projector-beam headlights and a streamlined silhouette – but, as a true American cop car should, it comes with a socking great V8.

You can, of course, get the Charger police car with the ‘Pentastar’ V6 (292bhp, 260lb ft torque), but any self-respecting US police force will want the V8 version. Specifically the 5.7-litre, HEMI-engined V8 with 370bhp, 390lb ft of torque and a 0-60mph time of less than six seconds.

Fast enough to give the majority of road-bound crims food for thought. Then there’s the reinforced RWD chassis, featuring performance suspension, load-levelling shocks, heavy duty brakes, stabiliser bars all round, 18-inch performance tyres, and – officially the Best Thing Ever – steel wheels.

Inside you get, officer, a new seven-inch full-colour instrument cluster, police-spec front seats (to better hold officers’ belt-mounted gear and felon-absorbing waistlines) and the ability to customise your ride with the help of Mopar.

Sadly customisations don’t include multi-coloured grenade racks or machine guns in the headlights or oil slicks on the rear or revolving numberplates. Partly because it’s not 1964, and partly because Mopar isn’t run by five-year olds or Top Gear.

Rather, you get the option of bolstering the electrical performance of the car, add new graphics, ballistic door panels for the driver and passenger, and steel seat back inserts for the driver in case perps in the back become… agitated.

‘Having seen the change in driving styles and cars, I still can’t believe the police presence and residents kicking up a fuss. For four weeks out of 52, these super-wealthy individuals come and pump millions of pounds into the UK economy.

‘Not only that, they fulfil many car fan’s dream by bringing super rare Bugatti Veyrons, or special edition Paganis. I feel sorry for these guys coming here with their expensive toys as they get harassed by police.’
