Lamborghini owner 'absolutely gutted' after rare £200k supercar is wrecked in fire

The owner of a rare Lamborghini says he is “absolutely gutted” after he watched as his rare £200,000 supercar was ravaged in a fire.

The black Lamborghini 6 Litre Diablo VT could be seen with flames shooting from the rear after it caught ablaze at around noon yesterday.

Fire crews attended the scene in Brentwood, Essex, and extinguished the blaze but the vehicle was left with catastrophic damage.

The devastated owner said the swanky motor was one of only 30 right hand cars built in that model and was imported specially from New Zealand.

The “irreplaceable” 550 horse power vehicle , made in 2001, had only been in the hands of the driver for a year with just 8,000 miles on the clock.

The owner, who did not want to be named, said: “I was coming round the corner at the roundabout at Queens Road when I started to see smoke coming out of the back.

“I thought it was the clutch and then it started to go away. I stopped there in the middle of the road next to Shenfield Common just short of the traffic and I was going to pull up but then the fire started.

“I got out, called the fire service – who were really quick in arriving. The whole of the back was alight with flames coming out of the hole in the back. I am going to see if it can be repaired. But if the insurance company says it is a write off I’m going to try to buy it off them.”

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service quickly extinguished the flames after receiving numerous calls about the incident.

On Monday a businessman in South Delhi, India, watched as his Lamborghini Gallardo, with a lofty price tag of $400,000 due to import taxes, went up in flames, according to several local reports.

The driver, who had just picked up the car from a nearby service station, escaped without harm. Officials said the cause of the fire is not yet known.

Lamborghini stopped production of the Gallardo, the automaker’s best-selling car, back in 2013. It sold more than 14,000 of them over a 10-year run.

The company issued a recall a few years back, citing risk of a fire.

Audi has just launched its second-generation R8 but the old one still has plenty of life left in it, especially if you modify the heck out of it.

Here’s a first-generation R8 V10 that’s been modified by America’s own AMS Performance. The car is strapped to a dyno and as you’ll soon see after hitting play it shoots some pretty massive flames from its exhaust once it’s on the boil.

The guys at AMS have added a custom twin-turbocharger setup to the range-topping R8’s 5.2-liter V-10. There’s a lengthy list of additional upgrades including a new intake manifold, reinforcements for the stock seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission, a new fuel pump and a new air-to-water intercooler system.

According to AMS, the setup is already delivering more than 1,300 horsepower to the wheels. The next stop for this R8 is a trial by fire at none other than the Texas Speed Syndicate Texas Invitational – King of the Streets event.

This is a Lamborghini. But not just any Lamborghini. This is a limited edition souped up Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera. And it’s on fire.

As you can probably guess, these do not come cheap – when they are in one piece at least. If you’re looking to buy one, you should be prepared to spend nearly £150k.

After shelling out that amount of money, the unlucky owner of this supercar probably wasn’t expecting it to burst into flames as he was driving it down the A41 in Hertfordshire.

But that’s exactly what happened. Amazingly both the driver and passenger managed to escape unharmed, but as you can see, by the time the emergency services arrived the Lambo was a little, well, charred.

Firefighters called to the scene even took their own photos of the car – which only had 18,000 miles on the clock – as two of them hosed down the remaining chassis.

New £440,000 Lamborghini Bursts into Flames On Demonstration Day

A brand new £440,000 Lamborghini reportedly burst into in flames while being exhibited to the media at a demonstration in Australia. Now that is seriously bad luck.

Witnesses say the light blue V12-powered Aventador LP700-4 Roadster had completed dozens of laps around Phillip Island race track in Victoria when heavy smoke and fire emerged from behind the cabin.

Top Gear Australia editor Tim Keen was driving the supercar, and was quickly instructed to stop on the track and leave the vehicle. Sources say that a driving instructor was heard desperately yelling for people to grab fire extinguishers off the walls of the pit bays nearby.

According to Fairfax Media ‘a number’ of fire extinguishers were needed to put out the fire, which is believed to have started due to an oil leak in the exhaust and spread to the rear taillight. It is understood oil from one of the brake lines leaked on the exhaust system and caught fire.

A statement released by Lamborghini explained that the blaze was caused by the vehicle’s ‘extended track use in a high-temperature environment’ and they consequently have no plans to modify the car. ‘The investigation has also confirmed that the issue was not due to any fault in the design or construction of the vehicle,’ the statement read.

The Italian car-maker was further embarrassed when Lamborghini’s head of south-east Asia and the Pacific, Sebastien Henry, asked media attending not to write about the incident or report about it on social media.
