Qatari supercar owner admits: 'We make too much noise'

A wealthy “boy-racer” from the Middle East welcomed the proposed crackdown on anti-social driving in Knightsbridge and admitted “we make too much noise.”

Kensington and Chelsea council chiefs plan to introduce “car-Asbos”, making it a criminal offence for drivers to rev their engines, rapidly accelerate or play loud music in the neighbourhood.

The move follows years of roaring engines and squealing tyres on summer nights on the streets around Harrods that have blighted the lives of local residents. Now drivers of the imported “pimped up” supercars – often covered in gold or crystals – face prosecution and fines.

One supercar owner told the Standard he accepted the noise from their cars had been causing problems.

Mohammed Al Kubaisi, 26, a millionaire businessman from Qatar, has driven his Bentley, Ferrari, Rolls Royce Ghost, and now his Aston Martin Vanquish around the streets of Knightsbridge.

But he said: “We need to respect the UK law and the people that live here. We do make too much noise with our cars and we are visitors here so if the law is made we will abide by it.”

The planned Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) would be imposed on the Brompton and Hans Town wards of Knightsbridge, which includes Harrods and the streets around it.

Breaches of the PSPO will lead to fines and potential prosecution. Repeated breaking of the rules will lead to cars being seized by police and impounded.

The order would make it illegal for motorists to perform any of 11 different activities: revving engines; speeding; sudden or rapid acceleration; driving in convoy; racing; leaving the engine of a stationary vehicle to run idle; performing stunts; sounding horns; playing music; using threatening, intimidating behaviour; causing an obstruction on the road, whether moving or stationary.

Who cares about the congestion charge? How the super-rich get around London

Who cares about the congestion charge? How the super-rich get around London

From a blinged-up Rolls Royce to a Mercedes covered with Swarovski crystals, these pictures give a glimpse of how the super-rich like to travel around London.

The supercars have caught the eye of passers-by, with the garish Mercedes S-Class and a Rolls Royce from Dubai popping up on the streets of Knightsbridge.

A silver Porsche 918 Spyder with Saudi Arabian license plates has also been garnering attention.

But the Mercedes S-Class doesn’t seem to be in quite as good condition as when it was last pictured on MailOnline, with some of the crystals no longer there.

The 2014 CLS 350 used to be owned by Russian business student Daria Radionova until she sold it for £155,000 on eBay last October. It is often seen parked in exclusive parts of London.

A team from Russia had spent 12 hours a day for two months working on customising the car, and Ms Radionova said last September that she was ‘really happy’ with it.

The then 21-year-old added: ‘It gets lots of attention from people walking by and in cars. Sometimes I think they might crash.’

Knightsbridge has become known in recent years for Arab playboys speeding around in cars worth hundreds of thousands of pounds.

Knightsbridge car parking space on sale for more than the price of luxury ‘supercar’

Knightsbridge car parking space on sale for more than the price of luxury 'supercar'

At first glance a prime piece of real estate in Knightsbridge for nearly £400,000 seems to be something of a bargain. That is until you realise it is for a car parking space only.

The space boasts 24 hour security, valet service and an “exceptional chauffeur lounge”, but at £390,000 it costs more than most of the super cars you would presumably put on it.

The space, which fits up to three cars, was first advertised on Rightmove last February so the price tag might be putting off a few punters, but if it is a bit steep, letting agents Foxtons has two smaller alternatives on sale for the comparative bargains of £210,000 and £132,000.

It is in the exclusive Kingston House estate in Ennismore Gardens, which was dubbed one of “the most expensive streets in Britain” by the Daily Mail in 2011 with the average house being worth £3,345,000.

And its not the only bit of prime vehicular real estate on offer on Rightmove at the moment. Another choice on offer is a space in the Knightsbridge Apartments development which is on the market for £325,000.

But if that is still a little too pricey there is another spot in the Knightsbridge on the market for a steal at £250,000.

Velvet Rolls Royce: £300k supercar given furry makeover

Velvet Rolls Royce: £300k supercar given furry makeover

Velvet cars appear the latest craze for the super rich after this Rolls Royce was spotted in London.

Passers-by stopped to stroke the £300,000 supercar outside Harrods in swanky Knightsbridge.

The durable fabric is supposed to be weather resistant for those with a spare £3,000 and want their motor to stand out.

Christmas shoppers stopped and stared at the Phantom drophead coupe and took to Twitter to post pictures of it online.

It comes after a black velvet Porsche became an internet sensation when it was seen in the capital last summer.

Created by Velvet Car, a French company specialising in luxurious films and accessories, the service involves ‘wrapping’ the cars in a durable and weather resistant fibre.

A spokesman for the firm, which supplies the material to garages in the UK and overseas, said that the material, called Velvet Elite 9100, allows car owners to better express their style.

The fibre comes in a range of colours – including fuchsia pink and orange – and is available for all vehicle types.

It is coated with special adhesives and durable textile fibers to withstand severe weather condition.

The material will last roughly three years and, if the mystery owner has a change of heart, the wrap can be removed by professionals restoring the car to a just off the production line state.

It can be cleaned by hand or using a normal jet wash, without requiring any special products.

A British company, Raccoon, was responsible for the UK’s first velvet-covered car and has completed eight wrappings – mainly for customers who were looking to stand out.

Spokeswoman Alison Clark said: “It tends to be people looking to make a statement.”

Revealed: How Arab playboys fly their supercars into London on chartered cargo jets

Supercars like Ferraris and Lamborghinis take to the skies each year as rich Arab playboys bring their vehicles from the Middle East to London, usually for just a few weeks over summer.

The car owners, many of them from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Kuwait, will happily pay a small fortune – in excess of £20,000 for a return journey – for their metal marvels to be flown around 3,000 miles, and often leave them parked up on the streets of Knightsbridge.

Qatar Airways is one such airline that ships the luxury cars from Doha to Heathrow. Secured to the floor of one of their Airbus A330s, the precious cargo can either be accommodated in a single row or in a side-by-side configuration.

Using their main and lower deck, the airline offers 31 positions on each flight.

Daniel Hallworth, managing director of Dan Car Logistics, which specialises in air freight, told MailOnline: ‘The Arabs often use agents to arrange their cars to be flown to the UK – and some of these guys can have two or three cars that they bring over for just one month.

‘Once here, they can legally drive it for up to two months. A lot of them tour – so they may come to London for a bit and then truck their vehicle to much sunnier places like Marbella to extend their fun.’

Mr Hallworth, whose company is based in Manchester, said that a car such as a Ferrari or McLaren can cost up to £5,000 to transport each way, while a Bugatti Veyron would be about £6,000 per journey.

High-performance supercars recently flocked to west London as wealthy Arabs arrived for the ‘summer season’ in Britain.

The capital has seen a boom in the number of Lamborghinis, Ferraris and Bugattis on its streets as rich Qataris, Saudis, Emiratis and Kuwaitis move to London during the Middle East’s baking mid-summer months.

The growing number of sports cars around the wealthy Knightsbridge district is causing some local residents to worry about breaches of parking rules and potential dangerous driving.

Cars from the Middle-Eastern country were given a whopping £57,060-worth of fines last year, up from just £31,780 in 2011/12.

The wealthy holidaymakers, predominantly from Saudi Arabia and Qatar, arrived in London following the end of Ramadan.
