Introducing The Supercar For Superyachts

Introducing The Supercar For Superyachts

It’s a given that a number of the gleaming vessels on show at this month’s Monaco Yacht Show (taking place from September 23 to 26) will feature helicopters on deck – in superyacht circles having a helipad and complementary aircraft has become almost de rigueur. More likely then, to impress a roving billionaire eager to pick up a new boating accessory is a novel supercar created specifically for superyachts.

Launched by yachting company Camper & Nicholsons in collaboration with Briggs Automotive Company, the Marine Edition Mono is capable of reaching 170mph and can go from 0-60mph in just 2.7 seconds yet weights only 580kg. That relatively light weight means it can be hoisted fairly easily onto land and deployed to discover the surrounding streets when the yacht docks, but for superyacht owners who prefer to spend their time at sea its main purpose could simply be to serve as the ultimate showboating frivolity.

To make sure it looks the part wherever it ends up, owners can customise the interior and exterior to match their yachts’ colour schemes. The seat will be made to measure, for example, and the name and port of the superyacht with which the car is associated will be etched on the car’s rear wing.

In response to the unconventional perch the Marine Edition Mono will occupy, other technical features have been subtly adapted too. Protective coatings on the car’s body and all exposed metallic components will protect against salty air and water and corrosion. Handily, the car is also supplied with a carbon-fibre crane arm that is compatible with all yacht crane systems and which can be used to transport the automobile onto solid ground.

Though none of the newly launched made-to-order cars has been commissioned as yet, Camper & Nicholsons says that the response has been enthusiastic: “We have had a great response and are in discussions with several interested parties.” Those who do wish to purchase one of the cars can expect to pay about £500,000 (plus delivery and VAT where applicable). The cars will be designed and built in Liverpool and manufacturers expect they will be able to produce one car per month if built to their standardised specification.

Rich kid set his Ferrari 458 Italia on fire because he wanted a new one

Rich kid set his Ferrari 458 Italia on fire because he wanted a new one

A Swiss millionaire officially has the brattiest child in the world. The man’s unnamed 20-year-old son intentionally set his $400,000 Ferrari 458 Italia on fire, hoping to get insurance money to buy the Italian company’s newer, better, faster model.

According to theNew York Daily News, the poor kid just wanted a new Ferrari and was too afraid to tell his father that his 458 was a horrible car in his eyes and that he desperately needed a new one, so he took things into his own hands.

Let’s just take a second to think about the horrible situation the kid was in — not only was his Ferrari no longer the newest, best model he could buy, but he was only receiving $13,000 a month in allowance money. Oh, and the fact he only has 14 other cars, including peasant models like a Lamborghini. I mean, did he have any other option?

Lucky for him, he met a Ferrari salesman who recommended that because his current Ferrari wouldn’t cover the costs of the new one, he should just destroy it and get the insurance company to pay it off.

So the kid, who is as equally as intelligent as the Ferrari salesman, then went out and hired two people, for close to $20,000 each to take his car through the nearby Swiss border into Germany and set it on fire. He even went and got a relaxing massage while this was all happening so he would have an alibi.

But unfortunately for our unlucky and hard-done-by 20-year-old, the whole act of arson was caught by pesky security cameras. Darn you security companies!

So now, his Ferrari has been completely destroyed, he’s getting 22 months probation and a $44,000 fine and he only has 14 cars left.

Superyacht with a helipad, submarine storage… and its own infinity pool

Superyacht with a helipad, submarine storage... and its own infinity pool

When the ultra-rich splash out on a new superyacht, they expect it to come with all the latest accessories. And that’s exactly what they get with the 223ft Explorer, which comes with its own helipad, infinity pool and plenty for space for supercar and jetski storage.

With space for 12 lucky guests on board, the concept yacht from British yacht designer Tony Castro is the ultimate toy for the extremely wealthy and has been dubbed the ‘Range Rover of the seas’.

It was designed to withstand any weather conditions and is sturdy enough to circumnavigate the globe – all while looking incredibly stylish, of course. When it comes to transporting all those extras any cruising millionaire needs to hand, there’s plenty of space for all of them.

The company explains: ‘With a large carrying capacity for toys and tenders, she is capable of carrying a helicopter in a climate controlled garage, twin limo tenders, car, submarine, jetskis, paddleboards and a variety of inflatables water toys.’

But of course, the life of the ultra-wealthy comes at a cost. According to Tony Castro Design, the superyacht costs approximately 40million euros (around £29million/$43million) to build, which means it is likely to cost even more to purchase.

While the yacht has been designed with ‘rugged utilitarian-looking aesthetics’, it is actually a sumptuous retreat at sea. For the 12 guests, there is space on the yacht for 15 crew, ensuring there is nothing always someone on hand to make sure the journey goes smoohtly.

The designers explain: ‘Her unique layout holds a full beam enclosed observation deck with opening roof, cinema, beach club, sauna, scuba diving pool, gymnasium, pool, wine cellar and ample space to accommodate a total of 12 guests.’

And of course, there are all the other luxurious finishing touches you would expect to find on board. The guests of honour can enjoy accommodation in the Master Cabin or VIP suite, while others can choose between four other double guest cabins.

There are also plenty of ‘terrace’ area, with sunloungers, giving the impression of sitting on the beach as the water laps the sands. In reality, the wooden areas just out into the sea with ladders down so guests can take a dip to cool off whenever they wish.

And the entire design is offset with panoramic windows offering views across the ocean.

Supercar Dating Website Launched For Luxury Car Owners

Supercar Dating Website Launched For Luxury Car Owners

Only men owning pricey luxury vehicles such as Lamborghinis, Porsches and Ferraris are allowed to sign up to a brand new dating site, where women list their favourite cars in a bid to bag themselves a rich car lover.

SupercarDating.com, aims to put “fine living companions” in the passenger seat next to wealthy single men.

Site creator Sangeeth Segaram – who drives a Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 costing around £300,000 – came up with the idea because he said he struggled to find a genuine date despite being a loaded property developer.

He said: “I spoke to many female colleagues about online dating and the general consensus was that lots of men pretend to be wealthy.

“Carrying property deeds and bank statements on first dates is cumbersome, so I conceived the idea that performance car ownership would provide a glimpse of a date’s wealth.

“Our site enables efficient dating between supercar owners and companions that share a passion for the supercar lifestyle, such as Michelin dining, jet set holidays and high octane experiences.”

But Sangeeth reckons once the fast-lane thrills are over, it’s down to the personality of the potential match to figure whether a date was a success or not.

He said: “Beyond the first 10-15 minutes of a supercar date, the chemistry is down to the humour, charisma and personality of the dates – owning a V12 engine isn’t an antidote.

“No-one needs to date a supercar owner, but it’s a question of whether you would like to try something that’s different. It’s whatever happens on the date that counts.”

Sangeeth recommends that first dates, which would most likely involve alcohol, should not be in the supercars for safety reasons.

The site is offering free annual membership until the end of January 2015, before it costs £220 per year.

Wealthy Asians Choose Classic Cars

Wealthy Asians Choose Classic Cars

It has emerged that wealthy Asians are choosing classic cars over gold and property. Thanks to rising demand from wealthy Asians, classic cars such as Ferraris, Bugattis and Bentleys soared by 28 per cent in value in the year to June, outstripping gold, art and luxury London property.

Most collectors buy because they are passionate about old cars, but many are well aware of their rising value and buy accordingly. Over the past three to four years, values for older classic motor cars at auction or in dealer and private sales have bucked the global recession, proving a prudent investment..

“It’s an asset class that’s very rare and it’s very aspirational,” said Andrew Shirley, editor of the report. “A lot of Asian high net worth individuals have acquired classic cars…They keep them in their garage in the UK or Europe and they come over and drive them in rallies.”

However the classic car market has always been difficult to play. In 2007 banker Dietricj Hatlapa creative the first authoritative independent index, which now covers 50 cars worth at least £100,000, each with only 1,000 examples built and all with an established collector community. The index shows values racing up 16 per cent in 2012.

According to Mohammad Syed, head of strategic solutions at Coutts private bank, the non-financial rewards of owning a classic car are many. “The sector has bragging rights. Anyone can buy, or have purpose-built, a super-yacht, a big estate or a private jet, but you can’t replicate a unique historic car with provenance. This is something that no amount of wealth can recreate.”

He says the super wealthy want something unique which gives them access to exclusive events and social circles. For example, LVMH hosts an invitation-only car rally for high-end collectors. Other examples of strictly invitation-only events are the Pierre Corthay/Rothschild car run and the Concours of Elegance at Windsor Castle, which features 60 of the rarest motor cars in the world.
