Rich kid set his Ferrari 458 Italia on fire because he wanted a new one

Rich kid set his Ferrari 458 Italia on fire because he wanted a new one

A Swiss millionaire officially has the brattiest child in the world. The man’s unnamed 20-year-old son intentionally set his $400,000 Ferrari 458 Italia on fire, hoping to get insurance money to buy the Italian company’s newer, better, faster model.

According to theNew York Daily News, the poor kid just wanted a new Ferrari and was too afraid to tell his father that his 458 was a horrible car in his eyes and that he desperately needed a new one, so he took things into his own hands.

Let’s just take a second to think about the horrible situation the kid was in — not only was his Ferrari no longer the newest, best model he could buy, but he was only receiving $13,000 a month in allowance money. Oh, and the fact he only has 14 other cars, including peasant models like a Lamborghini. I mean, did he have any other option?

Lucky for him, he met a Ferrari salesman who recommended that because his current Ferrari wouldn’t cover the costs of the new one, he should just destroy it and get the insurance company to pay it off.

So the kid, who is as equally as intelligent as the Ferrari salesman, then went out and hired two people, for close to $20,000 each to take his car through the nearby Swiss border into Germany and set it on fire. He even went and got a relaxing massage while this was all happening so he would have an alibi.

But unfortunately for our unlucky and hard-done-by 20-year-old, the whole act of arson was caught by pesky security cameras. Darn you security companies!

So now, his Ferrari has been completely destroyed, he’s getting 22 months probation and a $44,000 fine and he only has 14 cars left.

Jeremy Clarkson has £259k McLaren supercar delivered days after signing £6m Amazon deal

Jeremy Clarkson has £259k McLaren supercar delivered days after signing £6m Amazon deal

It may be time for Jeremy Clarkson to break out the bubbly as a £259,000 motor is dropped off at his flat.

The McLaren 675LT goes from 0-62mph in 2.9 seconds, 0-124mph in 7.9 seconds – and boasts a top speed of 205mph.

And if he did fancy a glass of something fizzy to celebrate, girlfriend Phillipa Sage turned up too – lugging a carrier bag full of sugar-free Coca-Cola Zero.

Clarkson, 55, was snapped earlier looking relaxed as he smoked a fag and sipped wine on his balcony in West London.

It is not known if he is reviewing the McLaren for his motoring column or whether he has splashed out after signing a £6million deal for a new car show with Amazon.

It covers three 12-part series with the first due in autumn 2016 – six months after Chris Evans debuts his revamp of Top Gear on BBC2.

On signing the deal Clarkson said: “I feel like I’ve climbed out of a biplane and into a spaceship.”

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has previously admitted it will be “very, very, very expensive” to launch the show.

“They’re worth a lot and they know it,” he said of Clarkson and fellow presenters James May and Richard Hammond.

The Financial Times puts the total cost to Amazon at £160million.

Meanwhile, Suzi Perry admitted she is on the radar for a role on the new Top Gear.

The 45-year-old said: “For the record, I know that my name is in the mix and I’m not saying I won’t be doing it.

“But there’s not been an offer for me to be alongside Chris, the main presenter.”

Would you buy a Red Bull supercar?

Would you buy a Red Bull supercar?

Red Bull is, of course, a beverage company that has successfully broken into grand prix racing, but it could get into the road-car business at some point in the near future.

Commenting on the prospect at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner told Autocar that the idea “is still being talked about” in the halls of the outfit’s headquarters in Milton Keynes, and that it “hasn’t been ruled out for the future.” Of course that’s far from a confirmation of any such project taking hold, but it’s enough to keep hopes alive.

Though Red Bull has yet to produce its own road car, it has some experience collaborating on such projects. It lent a hand (or at least its star driver did) in developing the FX Sebastian Vettel Version for its title sponsor Infiniti, and was said to have played an even bigger role with the Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge project.

Unfortunately neither has been put into any serious quantity of production. Red Bull was, however, also one of the pioneers in the Vision Gran Turismo trend, designing fantastical pseudo-racing cars for digital entertainment that ended up looking something like the Caparo T1.

The prospects of a Red Bull supercar you could buy (at least theoretically) were fueled last year when the team’s legendary designer and chief engineer Adrian Newey stepped back from his trackside role to “work on new Red Bull Technology projects.”

Details of that project were set to “be announced in due course,” but have not yet been forthcoming, over a year later now. However his boss and longtime collaborator Horner told Autocar that “It’s something that Adrian is keen to do as a legacy project.”

Speeding British Supercar Drivers Caught By French Police Helicopter

Speeding British Supercar Drivers Caught By French Police Helicopter

A helicopter was scrambled to chase five British drivers caught tearing through France at speeds of “over 100mph”.

The petrol heads in top-range Porches and Lamborghinis were spotted whizzing through traffic by an off-duty police chief on a packed road in Biarritz, in the south of France.

The officer phoned colleagues who scrambled a helicopter to try and catch the drivers as they headed towards Hendaye and then on to Saragossa in Spain.

After spotting the chopper hovering overhead, the drivers slowed down, allowing the police cars to catch up.

The men, who have not been named by French authorities, were eventually pulled over at a toll booth where they received fines and a warning that their vehicles could be confiscated if they continued the reckless driving.

Although the speeds were not recorded on any speed guns or cameras, officers are adamant the men were travelling at speeds in excess of 100mph.

A police spokesman said: “The speeds were so high that we had to call in the Gendarmerie helicopter in Bayonne to intercept them.”

France has a strict record of penalising speeding drivers, with at least half a million Brits flashed by speed cameras in the country every year.

On-the-spot fines can be more than £100 and the country’s police force collected £1.38billion in 2014 alone.

Meet Ultima’s £95k, 1020bhp supercar

Meet Ultima’s £95k, 1020bhp supercar

Meet the Ultima Evolution. Ultima is a British sports car maker, and it’s been selling its GT-R and Can Am models in both kit and pre-built forms for over 15 years now.

Its cars are very fast. So replacing them with something called ‘Evolution’ suggests something very very fast.

There are, in fact, 15 different power outputs available from a range of Chevrolet LS V8 engines. It’s available at over £38,000 for a 350bhp Evolution in kit form, or £65,995 if you’d rather it was built in the factory.

But it’s the £95,995 Evolution range-topper you really want to know about. It’s a 6.8-litre supercharged V8 that cranks out 1020bhp, more than a Bugatti Veyron. The Ultima is a tenth of Veyron money, though, and at 950kg, weighs half as much.

The range-topping Evolution hits 60mph in 2.3 seconds, 0-100mph takes 4.9 seconds while 150mph is reached in 8.9 seconds. Just 0.3sec later it completes the quarter-mile at 156mph. Fast and Furious fans, this is a Ten Second Car.

There’s just one department in which the Ultima falls short: top speed. Its ‘gearing limited’ 240mph is well behind the Big Bug as well as Hennessey’s Venom GT, though probably sufficient for the rest of us.

While it comes with coupe and speedster-like convertible options, the Evolution looks little different to the GTR it replaces, posh new LED lights notwithstanding.

“The Ultima has taken its inspiration from the Group C Le Mans race cars and this is something we are very proud of indeed,” the company says. “The Ultima shape is something different and permanent compared to the ever-changing crop of latest supercars.”

Diamonds come standard on 90 million yuan ‘Fast & Furious 7’ supercar

Diamonds come standard on 90 million yuan 'Fast & Furious 7' supercar

The appearance in Shanghai of the diamond-embedded supercar seen flying between buildings in the trailer for the new high-octane Hollywood action film Fast & Furious 7 set off a social media storm.

Photographs of the limited edition Lykan HyperSport, which were taken at Shanghai Pudong International Airport, were rapidly shared on social media app WeChat and the mainland’s Twitter-like microblog service.

Images of the luxury supercar, with a top speed of 385 km/h, showed its headlights, which have a row of diamonds embedded inside.

Including taxes and other costs, the Lykan HyperSport supercar, built by Lebanese carmaker W Motors could expect to attract a price of the 90 million yuan (HK$114 million) if sold in China.

Only seven of the supercars will be manufactured, and it is still uncertain where they will go on sale – or just who will be able to buy one.

The Lykan HyperSport is powered by a twin-turbo flat-six 3.7 litre engine. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds.

But those features were not the source of greatest attention – instead, it was the diamonds embedded in the car’s headlights. The headlights, with titanium LED blades, include 420 15carat diamonds for a “lavish and luxurious finish”, the carmaker’s website says.

Yet would-be buyers who take a shine to the diamonds can also choose to have other precious stones, including yellow diamonds, rubies, sapphires and emeralds “integrated into the vehicle upon request”.

So far no one knows why the car was in Shanghai – and whether the appearance of the pictures on mainland social media is part of a marketing ploy to sell the car and promote the seventh film in the hit franchise, which will be released on the mainland on April 12. Universal Pictures, the producers of the film, could not be reached for comment yesterday.

“It could just be another case of Chinese tuhao [rich people] showing off their wealth,” one microblogger sniffed.
