Whoops! Lamborghini owner trying to sell his $280k V12 supercar smashes into a tree during a test drive

Whoops! Lamborghini owner trying to sell his $280k V12 supercar smashes into a tree during a test drive

What should have been the test drive of a lifetime ended up being the scare of a lifetime instead after a car accident in Sydney.

As supercars go, a Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 is up there with the best of them, but when the driver lost control of the car on New South Head Road, Vaucluse, a car enthusiast’s dream soon turned into a nightmare.

The car’s driver and owner lost control on a bend and crashed the luxury motor into a nearby tree – uprooting it – and badly damaging the right front, right wing and back of the V12 supercar.

It couldn’t have happened at a worse possible time because the car was being driven by the Lamborghini owner who was hoping to sell it at the time of the crash to a man who was a passenger in the vehicle.

The supercar is valued at $280,000, but instead of putting in an offer for the vehicle the passenger ended up being treated by paramedics for shock instead.

Both of the men were uninjured but were treated for shock at the scene.

Have you driven a Dh1.1 million supercar?

For four hours on December 6 last year, Dubai residents aged 25 years and above and those possessing a valid UAE driving licence could order a test drive around Downtown Dubai or DIFC in a Dh1.1m supercar thanks to a collaboration between Uber, an app-based transportation network and taxi company, and supercar manufacturer McLaren Automotive.

For the record, the car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 3 seconds, and boasts of a top speed of 333km/h.

Moment Driver Crashes £200,000 Ferrari On Test Drive

This is the moment a motorist crashed a new £200,000 Ferrari while taking it out for a test drive.

The man was reportedly driving the 14-plate Ferrari F458, which can reach speeds of 202mph, down the overtaking lane of the A12 near Essex when he lost control.

The red supercar spun into a nearby Volkswagen Bora, before smashing into the central reservation, according to witnesses.

Police were called to the scene, where they discovered the remains of the vehicle on the southbound carriageway between Dedham and Langham.

Incredibly, no-one was injured in the crash, which took place just after 10am on July 5.

The Ferrari, a 2014 demo model which is capable of 0-60mph in three seconds, is said to belong to Lancaster Ferrari, a Ferrari dealership based in Colchester.

The driver, who was described as wearing an expensive suit, is thought to have been taking the new car, which retails for upwards of £208,000, for a test drive in the hope of later buying it.

We highly doubt he will be buying it now.

The Porsche 918 Spyder in the UK is one of the fastest cars in the world and our friends over at the London Evening Standard have recently been given an exclusive ride in one (jealous, much?).

The article says that Maria Sharapova was driven in the sports car to the WTA Pre-Wimbledon Party at Kensington Roof Gardens by Formula One racing driver Mark Webber. As soon as they hopped out the Standard reporters hopped in!

Its plug-in technology means that when running on pollution-free electric-only mode, the car is almost entirely silent and can go up to 100 mph on electricity alone. But kick in the engine and it can reach a top speed of 214 mph – not that this was feasible in central London.

It is the most powerful car the luxury car brand has ever built, yet it produces so little CO2 that it is also one of the least polluting. Thanks to its innovative plug-in hybrid technology, the Porsche 918 Spyder is entirely exempt from the London Congestion Charge.

But while the car’s green credentials will save you up to £11.50 daily for driving in the Congestion Charge zone, there’s a large price to pay, and that is €781,155, or £625,000 at the current exchange rate.

Fresh from his drive in the Le Mans 24-hour race last weekend, Mark Webber said: “Having just driven the Porsche 919 Hybrid race car at Le Mans last weekend, I already know that this technology can produce incredible results.

“The 918 Spyder is the closest thing to a road-going version, and it’s just as amazing – especially as it can be driven into London for free.”

It is the only 918 Spyder currently in the UK but production has begun on a limited batch of 918 vehicles worldwide, hence the model’s name, of which around 40 will be sold in the UK.

Underworld Gangster Mick Gatto Reviews Mercedes-Benz’s G63 AMG

Underworld Gangster Mick Gatto reviews Mercedes-Benz’s G63 AMG

Mick Gatto is best known in Australia for surviving Melbourne’s gangland wars and beating a murder rap.

That’s why the underworld figure turned corporate “mediator’’ was the perfect person to take a few test laps in a new pimped-up, heavy-hitting Mercedes-Benz SUV favoured by mobsters and gangsta rappers alike.

In his review for Wheels magazine, Gatto reveals himself to be a bit of a speedster, admiring the G63 AMG’s “zing” and running a few red-lights with the assurance: “Yep, that was a bit illegal, but not to worry.’’

A former boxer and still a heavyweight in every sense of the word, Gatto abhors sports cars, saying that driving a Ferrari made him feel like a crab “driving a lawnmower”, and complains even the G63 “doesn’t feel all that roomy inside.”

“We figured who better to review a gangster car than a real-life gangster,” said Wheels editor Glenn Butler, “It’s a brute of a car, perhaps not as refined as the rest of Mercedes-Benz’s range.”

The interview is repeatedly interrupted by wellwishers keen to pay their respects to Gatto, who says he is often recognised on the street since the Underbelly TV series lifted his profile.

“I never turn down an autograph or a photo,” Gatto said. “As my lawyer said: ‘You never know when they might be on a jury.’ ”

Driving a Porsche with a Special Number Plate

Porsche 911 Turbo S

Car Dealer Magazine‘s Editor James Baggot recently fulfilled his all time motoring dream of driving a Porsche with a special number plate.

He drove Porsche’s fastest 997 edition – the 911 Turbo S with the famous 911 HUL number plate and said he had been looking forward to it for years.

911 HUL Number Plate

The 911 HUL private plate has been owned by Porsche for over 30 years. Anyone obsessed with car magazines will instantly recognise it as it is regularly used in press shoots.

It was first used on the original Turbo of 1975 and has, from that point onwards, traditionally been reserved for the generations of 911 Turbo press cars that have followed. That, incidentally, is a lot of 911s.

At the end of his 7 days with the car, Baggot wrote: “It’s time for 911 HUL to return to Porsche. After a week behind the wheel of the monster I’m smitten. Yes, the ride is firm and the tyre noise a little intrusive. Granted the seats aren’t the most cosseting and the 997 interior is showing its age now the 991 has arrived.

“However, never have I driven a car quite so intoxicating, quite so full of character and quite so mind-alteringly fast as the Turbo S. The fact it was wearing one of the most iconic plates in motoring folklore simply made the whole experience all the more special.”
