Ultimate GTI supercar hits GT6 world

Ultimate GTI supercar hits GT6 world

Volkswagen, the inventor of the GTI, has launched the latest descendant of the original hot hatch on the digital race circuit.

Gran Turismo 6 fans can now download the VW GTI Supersport, a 370kW digital supercar. A 635Nm VR6 TSI, seven-speed double-clutch transmission and 4Motion all-wheel drive take the virtual Veedub from 0-100km in 3.6 seconds and on to more than 300km/h.

The basic shape is still a two-box hatch, but it’s been lowered, widened and body-kitted for a radical stance, with lots of carbon-fibre components to lower the centre of gravity and raise its power-to-weight ratio to hair-raising 295kW per ton.

Wide body flares provide homes for the special 20-inch alloys and ventilation ducts for the rear brakes, while a big roof-edge spoiler and rear diffuser deliver the downforce for fast lap-times.

Download it to your Playstation in silver, red, blue or white – and don’t be surprised if you see something very similar ‘in the metal’ at the Worthersee GTI-Treffen gathering in May 2015.

Le Mans-Inspired Audi Hybrid Supercar Back On The Table?

Le Mans-Inspired Audi Hybrid Supercar Back On The Table?

Back in 2012, Audi’s then R&D chief Wolfgang Dürheimer let it be known that he wanted to develop a diesel-electric hybrid supercar to sit above the R8 in Audi’s performance lineup.

The car would have borrowed technology from Audi’s hugely-successful R18 e-tron quattro Le Mans prototype—along with its styling—and would have targeted the latest generation of hybrid supercars like the Ferrari LaFerrari, McLaren P1 and the Porsche 918 Spyder.

A year later, Dürheimer was dismissed from his post at Audi and reassigned to the role of CEO of Bentley and Bugatti. And with him went any chance of a new hybrid supercar from Audi. Or at least that’s what we thought.

Sweden’s Auto Motor and Sport, citing an inside source at the automaker, reports that a new supercar positioned above the R8 has been given the green light. To be called the R10, a prototype is said to have already been developed and test-driven by senior management.

The key to gaining approval, according to the report, was the ability to share the technology behind the car with other Volkswagen Group brands, namely, Bentley and Lamborghini. There’s a chance Porsche could even use the car’s architecture, expected to be a carbon fiber monocoque, for a supercar positioned between its 911 Turbo S and 918 Spyder.

Production of the alleged Audi R10 is slated to begin in 2016.

Gran Turismo Supercar Becomes Reality

Gran Turismo Supercar Becomes Reality Volkswagen has taken the designs for a GTI Roadster, destined to appear in the next instalment of racing game Gran Turismo, and turned it into a reality.

The supercar has 20-inch alloy wheels, a top speed of 190mph (306 km/h) and goes from 0 to 60 in under 3.6 seconds.

The angular-looking GTI Roadster has a large spoiler and is fitted with a 3-litre, twin-turbocharged V6 engine. This develops 500bhp and 413lb ft of torque to propel the car’s 1,420kg weight.

The supercar is the work of three Volkswagen designers, who won a competition to design a vehicle to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Gran Turismo.

It has been on display at the Woerthersee car show in Germany this week, but sadly the model that’s been built is a one-off concept Volkswagen said it has no current plans to put the supercar into mass production, and make it widely available.

Klaus Bischoff, head of design at Volkswagen, said: ‘When Sony asked us if we would develop a Vision GT vehicle exclusively for the game to mark the 15th anniversary of Gran Turismo we didn’t hesitate for a moment.’

Mobile Phones Disguised As Car Key Fobs

mobile phones disguised as car key fobs

These strange looking mobile phones have started emerging in the UK market, disguised as car key fobs. Officials are already considering banning them, but who would want to buy one anyway?

Marketed as “the world’s smallest mobiles”, the devices are available from mainstream shopping channels such as Amazon and eBay and feature logos from brands including BMW, Volkswagen, Bentley, Audi and Porsche. It’s doubtful that the manufacturers have given permission for this though.

You might think it’s a lot of effort to go through to try and get away with speaking on the phone whilst driving, have these people not heard of hands free sets?? Well apparently the ‘phone fobs’ have been advertised with prisoners in mind, as having a mobile phone in jail is an offense.

The product description of one device sold via Amazon states that it features “very very very low metal contact badges [which] can be removed due to metal content alarm”, while another says the fob is “easily concealable”.

Mobile Phones Designed To Look Like Car Key Fobs

More than 7,000 phones and Sim cards were confiscated in prisons in England and Wales last year. The latest key fob mobile phone has the potential to increase the number of mobiles in prisons simply by the nature of the design and size.

The government is discussing the issue with the National Trading Standards Board and the Serious Organised Crime Agency, and the NTSB has asked retailers to stop selling the ‘phone fobs’. The POA – a prison officer’s trade union has warned that prisoners found in possession of a mobile phone should be prosecuted.
